What happens

Young Beanie Marvel finds his father Hank shot dead by the creek near the family ranch outside Dodge City. Marshal Matt Dillon investigates the killing and discovers that the bullet came from a light rifle. The case leads toward the Circle D ranch foreman Jack Teague, a man with a questionable reputation who has been linked to rumors about the boy's mother.
