What happens

Marshal Matt Dillon and Doc are at the Long Branch when Mavis McCloud, a woman who answered an ad, arrives in Dodge City expecting to meet a man she is to marry. Dillon meets her at the train and learns she has mail-ordered a husband, Barney Wales, a sober, hard-working cowboy. Soon a stranger named Staley arrives in town, threatening to kill whoever Mavis married. Dillon warns Barney, who is ready to stand his ground, while Mavis tries to talk Staley out of violence. Tension builds as the men clash in the saloon and the Marshal weighs how to protect them. The gun smoke, the Marshal's duty, and the danger of a man who will not let go are at the heart of the story, as told in Gunsmoke, first broadcast on CBS Radio on August 9, 1959, with William Conrad, Parley Baer, Howard McNear and Sam Edwards.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
