What happens

A hungry young drifter named Tom returns to a ranch where he was previously sent away, desperate for food. He's shot and wounded, and the ranch owner's wife tends to his injury while telling him tall tales to keep him calm. Meanwhile, Marshal Dillon notices an unusual number of women arriving in town for a church social, and one of them, Mrs. Mayfield, seeks him out for a private conversation about an urgent matter.
