What happens
Gildersleeve and the Jolly Boys band learn that a displaced French boy, Jean Pierre Bousse, is arriving in Summerfield by train while his temporary guardian, Rumson Bullard, is away in Florida. The club members argue over who should take the boy in, each eager to offer their home. Their first meeting with Jean Pierre is awkward, since none of them speaks French beyond a few phrases from a dictionary and a hair tonic bottle. The Jolly Boys discover that Leroy has a rapport with the boy, and the group tries to make him feel welcome through music and small gestures. Gildersleeve, Floyd, Peavey, the judge and Leroy keep trying to win the boy's trust. The series stars Harold Peary, with Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle, and this episode aired on NBC on January 11, 1950.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
