What happens
On a rainy Saturday in June, Summer Fields Gildersleeve, the water commissioner, finds his household in a flurry preparing a wedding shower for Leila Ransom, his intended bride. Marjorie is hosting the party, and Gildersleeve is pressed into helping while Leroy sulks after a fistfight at the drugstore. Gildersleeve's friend Ben Waterford helps him borrow card tables and a punch bowl from the Pettibones, and Gildersleeve and Ben spend the afternoon running errands. The Great Gildersleeve, starring Harold Peary, was first broadcast on NBC on June 6, 1943.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
