What happens
Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, the Summerfield water commissioner, is pressed by his fiancée Leila to go over a list of wedding invitations with her. Gildersleeve repeatedly puts her off to attend to office business, and then instead joins his friends Judge Hooker and Doctor Pettibone for a golf game at the club. The Great Gildersleeve is a long-running NBC radio comedy, and this installment, first broadcast on May 9, 1943, stars Harold Peary in the title role, with Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle. The episode follows Gildersleeve's efforts to smooth things over with Leila through a series of awkward encounters and gifts.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
