What happens
Gildersleeve, the water commissioner, wants to take his vacation on the houseboat that the Jolly Boys bought, and the other members argue over who gets to use it first. Floyd is agreeable at first, but a letter from the former owner warns that the boat is in poor condition and leaks badly. Gildersleeve hides his departure from the others and sets sail with his family, his turtle and his supplies, while Bertie and Leroy prepare for the trip. Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle lead the cast of The Great Gildersleeve, broadcast on NBC on June 14, 1950.
Summerfield, a small town, in June, around the houseboat and the city water department office
Characters: Gildersleeve, Leroy, Marjorie, Bronco, Bertie, Floyd, Judge Hooker, Mr. P.V. Pivey
Listen for: Gildersleeve's attempts to take the houseboat first and the Jolly Boys' reaction to the letter about the boat's condition
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
