What happens

After a long summer vacation, Gildersleeve returns home to find his household unusually secretive. Leroy and Bertie notice strange goings-on, and Bronco arrives with a black eye that no one will explain. Gildersleeve questions Bronco, then speaks with Marjorie, who confides a secret to her uncle. Word of the news spreads as Gildersleeve shares his good mood with the barber Floyd and the judge, and the household adjusts to the change. The episode is the first of the fall series of the NBC program The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on September 6, 1950, with Harold Peary and Willard Waterman in the lead.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
