What happens

Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, a Wistful Vista bank official, receives a letter reporting an unclaimed savings account with over two hundred dollars. Eager to invest the windfall, he consults his neighbor Rumson Bullard, who advises him to buy war bonds rather than stocks. Gildersleeve nonetheless buys shares in United Refrigeration, and word of his tip spreads to his neighbor Leila Ransom, who buys in as well. The stock rises and then falls sharply, leaving Gildersleeve anxious over whether to sell. The episode is part of the long-running radio comedy The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on May 20, 1945, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
