What happens
Gildersleeve, the water commissioner of Summerfield, clashes with his niece Marjorie over her wish to take a job at Hogan Brothers, arguing that a woman's place is in the home. Marjorie's sudden change of heart brings a new arrangement, and the household's morning routine is disrupted. At the office, Gildersleeve's secretary Bessie arrives late, leading him to dismiss her in a fit of temper, and he is left scrambling for help. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy series, and this episode first aired on NBC on May 27, 1945, with Harold Peary in the title role, alongside Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
