What happens
Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, water commissioner of Summerfield, spends a busy Saturday clearing his desk with his secretary, Miss Fitch, and answers an irate woman's letter about an eel in her bathtub. He then applies for a B gasoline ration book, which requires his fellow motorist, Judge Hooker, to sign the form. The judge refuses, and Gildersleeve, who had invited him to Thanksgiving dinner, is left annoyed. Meanwhile, his niece Marjorie and nephew Leroy prepare for a school pageant, and Gildersleeve works to assemble his Thanksgiving guests while worrying about turkeys and about how to feed everyone. The Great Gildersleeve, a comedy series starring Harold Peary, aired on NBC; this episode first aired on November 22, 1942.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
