What happens
Throat-clearing aside, Gildersleeve is hosting his old friend Judge Hooker for dinner when his niece Marjorie's noisy practice upstairs and her talk of a dancing career cause friction. Marjorie insists she will not learn housework and has an understanding about marriage with Marshall Bullard. Gildersleeve asks Mrs. Ransom to talk sense into her, then tries reasoning with her himself, and finally has Marjorie take charge of the evening's supper with Bertie's help. Leroy and his drumming add to the household's troubles. The episode follows the family's efforts to bring Marjorie around to domestic skills.
The Gildersleeve household in the town of Summerfield, during a November evening dinner party and the days after it.
Characters: Gildersleeve, Marjorie, Leroy, Bertie, Judge Hooker, Mrs. Ransom, Peavey, Marshall Bullard
Listen for: Gildersleeve's attempts to persuade Marjorie to learn cooking and housework, and the kitchen lesson with Bertie.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
