What happens

Gildersleeve, a small-town man, and his niece and nephew, Marjorie and Leroy, start a holiday morning at home on George Washington's birthday. Gildersleeve is trying to sell the drugstore the estate has taken over in lieu of unpaid rent, but the business is losing money and a probate judge is coming to question him about the estate's accounts. Meanwhile Leroy, keen on the truth after a lecture on it, complicates matters. This is an episode of The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on February 22, 1942, with Harold Peary in the title role, supported by Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Summerfield, a small town, on George Washington's birthday; the Gildersleeve house and the rented drugstore downtown

Characters: Gildersleeve, Marjorie, Leroy, Bertie, Oscar Finch, Judge Hooker, Mrs. Salisbury Twitchell, Mr. Showers

Listen for: Gildersleeve's evasive attempts to hide the drugstore's losses from Judge Hooker, and Leroy's blunt, literal-minded honesty

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
