What happens
Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, a Wistful Vista handyman with a reputation for fixing machines, is asked to teach a Red Cross Motor Corps class how to take an automobile motor apart and put it together again. Leroy and Marjorie help him prepare, but Gildersleeve admits he knows little about cars and turns to his friend Judge Hooker for help. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy series, and this episode aired on NBC on February 8, 1942, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle. The class goes ahead in a borrowed station wagon, with Gildersleeve teaching while trying to keep up appearances.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
