What happens

Great Gildersleeve has an unusual plan when the town's garbage collectors refuse to take his tin cans and his household goes without bacon. He decides to raise a pig, feeding it kitchen scraps and eventually eating it. With help from his friend Floyd Munson, he tracks down a two-week-old piglet at a farm and brings it home. The household adjusts to the new arrival in the parlor, and Leroy takes an interest in caring for it. The pig soon falls ill, and Gildersleeve sits up with it through the night. This episode of The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on April 1, 1945, stars Harold Peary.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
