What happens
Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, a bumbling former water commissioner, is planning to manufacture a plastic mousetrap with his partner Peavey McGee and needs a loan to start production. His niece Marjorie begins seeing Everett Todd, the son of banker Ainsworth Todd, whom Gildersleeve dislikes after an earlier quarrel. The Great Gildersleeve is an NBC radio comedy, first broadcast on September 24, 1944, with Harold Peary in the title role, joined by Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle. Gildersleeve tries to win Todd's favor for the loan, while Marjorie's uncle worries about her growing friendship with the young man.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
