What happens
Great Gildersleeve and his nephew Leroy plant a cherry tree in the front yard of the Gildersleeve house in Summerfield. Their neighbor Mrs. Ransom and their friend Judge Hooker drop by to watch the digging and joke about the work. The tree is delivered in a surprising way, and the planting is complicated further when the water supply runs weak in town. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy, and this episode first aired on NBC on October 4, 1942, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
