What happens
Gildersleeve wakes to find that an early snowfall has arrived in October, and the cold soon reaches his household in Summerfield. Leroy urges him to help, and Gildersleeve bickers with the Commissioner over frozen pipes and a hole in the yard. He insists his housekeeper Birdie keep a 65-degree thermostat setting while the furnace is converted to coal. Gildersleeve then goes to check on Mrs. Ransom, a widow with no coal and no heat, and Judge Hooker tags along. The episode is part of The Great Gildersleeve, first aired on NBC on October 11, 1942, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
