What happens
Gildersleeve prepares for the finals of the Labor Day golf tournament at the Summerfield Country Club. Before the match, his household is thrown into disorder by Bill Ferris, a trumpet-playing bandleader staying at the house, and by his niece Marjorie's new dress for the club dance. Gildersleeve's rival, Judge Hooker, is laid up with gout, and the match is set to be played by a stand-in. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy series. This episode first aired on NBC on September 6, 1942, with Harold Peary in the title role, alongside Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
