What happens
Leroy Gildersleeve has been seeing a girl named Wendy, and his Uncle Gildersleeve, a small-town Southern man who wants him to settle down, takes notice. Leroy trades his school sweater deal with his uncle, agreeing to see less of Wendy in exchange for a new one. Uncle Gildersleeve then invites Wendy to dinner and arranges an evening for the two of them at home. The Great Gildersleeve, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle, aired on NBC on January 20, 1954. Leroy's attempt to keep his uncle happy and his romance going quickly becomes complicated.
A small Southern town, mostly the Gildersleeve home, a school, a drugstore and the street outside.
Characters: Gildersleeve, Leroy, Bernie, Wendy, Marjorie, Peavy, Pee-Wee, Judge Hooker
Listen for: Leroy's sweater deal with his uncle and the evening at home with Wendy, which ends with the home movies and a sudden disappearance.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
