What happens
Leroy Gildersleeve, a young boy, spends his money on novelties from a mail-order company and is told by his uncle Gildersleeve that he must find a job to learn the value of a dollar. After a meeting with Judge Hooker, Leroy is hired at Peavey's drugstore, where he takes charge while Mr. Peavey steps out. The episode is part of the radio series The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on May 23, 1943, with Harold Peary as Gildersleeve and Willard Waterman as Peavey. Leroy's first days on the job bring trouble with customers and a mix-up over a phone call, and the story turns to Gildersleeve's struggle with an overgrown lawn at home.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
