What happens
Throughout a quiet morning in Summerfield, Gildersleeve learns that Leila Ransom is marrying Dr. Julian Henry Culpepper, when a wedding invitation arrives at his breakfast table. Birdie and the children try to soften the news, but Gildersleeve insists that he feels fine. Neighbors, the judge, and his friends at the Jolly Boys Club all offer sympathy he does not want. Later, Leila asks him to pack her belongings, and he finds an old bundle of love letters. The story is part of The Great Gildersleeve, which first aired on NBC on October 2, 1946, starring Harold Peary.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
