What happens
Gildersleeve learns that his former sweetheart Leila Ransom is leaving town to marry another man. She stops by to say goodbye and gives him a key to her house, and he reacts awkwardly, then tries to keep his mind off her departure. At home, Gildersleeve's household goes about its ordinary business while he hosts a card game with friends, and he struggles with his feelings about losing Leila. The Great Gildersleeve is an NBC radio comedy, first broadcast on October 9, 1946, and starring Harold Peary.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
