What happens
The Great Gildersleeve is a comedy about Summerfield's pompous water commissioner, Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, played by Harold Peary. After his nephew Leroy gets a bloody nose in a fight defending Gildersleeve's honor, the uncle frets over the boy's welfare and his own reputation. Gildersleeve then accepts Leila Ransom's invitation to a dinner party for himself and his new friend Joanne Piper, and the evening brings new guests, a little awkwardness, and some singing around the piano. Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle also appear in the cast. The episode first aired on NBC on April 23, 1947.
Summerfield, a small town, including the Gildersleeve house, the Ransom house next door, and the local grocery store.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
