What happens
Gildersleeve, a water commissioner, walks Joanne Throckmorton home and begins to hope their outings will lead to a deeper bond. Joanne suggests they carry on a romance by letter, modeled on the correspondence between Tchaikovsky and Madame von Meck. Gildersleeve's friend Eve Simmons is skeptical of the idea. The story is part of The Great Gildersleeve, a series first broadcast on NBC on April 30, 1947, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.
Summerfield, a small town, including the water reservoir, the grocery store and the public library
Characters: Gildersleeve, Joanne Throckmorton, Eve Simmons, Leroy, Judge Hooker, Bertie, Charlie Anderson, Marjorie
Listen for: Gildersleeve's proposal to Joanne and his plan to write her letters at eight o'clock each evening
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
