What happens

The Great Gildersleeve, a radio comedy series, presents this 1946 episode starring Harold Peary. Gildersleeve and his friends meet at the Jolly Boys Club, a social club above Floyd Munson's barbershop in Summerfield. Their quiet Saturday night is interrupted when Dr. Needham, the local preacher, arrives with an appeal. He asks the men to sponsor a baby girl named Christina from the Summerfield orphanage for ten dollars a month, and he invites them to visit her before deciding. The club members argue over the offer, and the household reacts to the news at home. The broadcast first aired on NBC on December 4, 1946.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
