What happens
Throat-clearing barber Floyd lets Commissioner Gildersleeve wait while the pompous Mr. Bullard expects his turn. Gildersleeve has invited the Bullards to dinner, but his housekeeper Bertie has been planning a vacation, and the family must manage the house without her. The Great Gildersleeve is a long-running NBC radio comedy, heard here in its 1946 broadcast, starring Harold Peary, with Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle in the cast.
Summerfield, a small town, in the 1940s

Listen for: Gildersleeve's attempts to run the household during Bertie's vacation, and the Bullards' dinner invitation
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
