What happens
Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve opens a fashionable hat shop with his partner Adeline Fairchild on the morning of its grand opening. The shop is next door to Gildersleeve's home, and the family is busy preparing decorations, flowers and musicians. Gildersleeve is confident the event will bring in customers, especially society leader Mrs. Pettibone. Adeline and Mrs. Pettibone have quarreled at the women's club over Adeline's dress, and Mrs. Pettibone has said she will not attend. Gildersleeve sets out to win her back with a gift, a hat with an ostrich feather. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy, first broadcast on NBC on February 9, 1949, starring Harold Peary.

Characters: Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, Adeline Fairchild, Mrs. Pettibone, Marjorie, Leroy, Birdie, Judge Hooker, Mr. Pettibone
Listen for: Gildersleeve's attempt to win back Mrs. Pettibone with the ostrich-feather hat, and the grand opening itself.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
