What happens

Gildersleeve, the water commissioner of Summerfield, has bought into a hat shop run by Adeline Fairchild next door to his home. When his cousin Leela Ransom, who owns the house, writes that she is returning and plans to close the hat shop, Gildersleeve and Judge Hooker try to win her over with letters and personal visits. Gildersleeve believes he can charm Leela into keeping the shop open. Their efforts to smooth things over do not go as planned.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
