What happens

Gildersleeve learns that his neighbor Adeline Fairchild plans to open a hat shop in her living room, and he fears the business will bring traffic and parked cars to the quiet residential street. He consults Judge Hooker about the zoning rules, and the judge explains that a home business is allowed unless neighbors petition against it. Gildersleeve then visits Mr. Bullard, who is also worried, and the two plan to circulate a petition. Meanwhile Adeline, short of cash, accepts a loan from Gildersleeve in exchange for a silent partnership. The Great Gildersleeve is a comedy series, and this episode first aired on NBC on February 2, 1949, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
