What happens
Gildersleeve, a city water commissioner, is a would-be romantic who has been turned down by one date after another. After a wrong number leads him to a young woman's telephone voice, he calls the house, which turns out to be the home of Catherine Milford, a registered nurse, and her mother. He visits to check a water heater, where he meets Catherine and is invited to dinner. The Great Gildersleeve is played by Harold Peary. The episode first aired on NBC on September 28, 1949, as part of the series.
Summerfield, a small town; Gildersleeve's home, the Milford house on Maple Street, and a drugstore
Characters: Gildersleeve, Catherine Milford, Mrs. Milford, Judge Hooker, Bessie, Marjorie, Leroy, Peebee
Listen for: Gildersleeve's telephone calls, his visit to the water heater, and his dinner invitation from Mrs. Milford
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
