What happens

Great Gildersleeve, the water commissioner, needs money to send his niece Marjorie to college, so he decides to sell a song he wrote years ago. He finds the old sheet music in an attic trunk and tries to pitch it to visiting music publisher Henry Krause, who is staying at Bullard's. Gildersleeve's neighbors, the Jolly Boys, offer to help, but their rehearsal goes badly, and his own attempt to sing the song over the telephone is met with a blunt verdict. Discouraged, he considers giving up on the idea. The episode is part of The Great Gildersleeve series, first broadcast on NBC on September 21, 1949, with Harold Peary in the title role.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
