What happens
Gildersleeve, back home after an appendectomy, is eager to return to work but finds that everyone wants to hear the story of his operation. He repeats it to the milkman, Leroy, Babs, Judge Hooker and the druggist P.V., each of whom tires of the subject. At the office, Peavy shows little interest, and Paula Winthrop, who has recently returned to town, offers to visit him that afternoon. Gildersleeve soon feels a sudden relapse, and his niece, nephew and household staff react with amusement. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy series on NBC, first broadcast on January 16, 1952, with Harold Peary in the title role.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
