What happens

Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, the water commissioner, is president of the Jolly Boys Club and expects his members at the next meeting. When Floyd the barber refuses to attend, Gildersleeve makes a visit to the barbershop to discuss it. Gildersleeve then receives a perfumed letter from Katie Lee, a showgirl he once helped in the rain, saying she will be passing through town that evening. Torn between his club duties and the chance to see her, Gildersleeve must decide where he should be. This episode of The Great Gildersleeve, which aired on NBC on March 14, 1951, stars Harold Peary, with Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle also in the cast.

Summerfield, a small town, in the Gildersleeve home, the barbershop, and the train depot.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
