What happens
Gildersleeve is out of work and trying to find a position. He has been waiting for the plastic mousetrap he and his partner Fiver McGee are developing, but money is running short. Judge Hooker offers to help him get a job, and Gildersleeve, after brushing the offer off, sets out to find a contact through his acquaintances. His search takes him through the barbershop, the local drugstore, and finally a dinner invitation from Mrs. Ransom, where he meets Nelson Humpstone, the factory manager. The series is The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on October 15, 1944, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
