What happens

Harold Peary stars as the Great Gildersleeve, a small-town Summerfield man who takes on the task of reforming the town's rowdy boys. Gildersleeve, his niece Marjorie, nephew Leroy and housekeeper Birdie are at the centre of this episode, which first aired on NBC on October 8, 1944. After Leroy is reported by his school principal for trouble with a classmate, Gildersleeve tries to organize a boys' choir, which quickly falls apart. Next he joins Judge Hooker to found a boys' club over Floyd Munson's barbershop, with Mr. Peavy supplying the refreshments. The plans get muddled as the adults get distracted and the boys wander off.

Summerfield, a small town, including the Gildersleeve house, the grammar school, Peavy's drugstore and a barbershop used as a boys' club.

Listen for: Gildersleeve's choir lesson with the boys, and the boys' club opening where the adults end up enjoying themselves more than the boys.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
