What happens
On a crisp Saturday in October, Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve is at home, pacing his front parlor while he waits for a long-distance call from Nelson Humpstone in Detroit about a possible job. His household is busy with chores: his nephew Leroy is told to rake leaves and practice piano, and his niece Marjorie is nudged to tidy her room. Gildersleeve's friend Judge Hooker drops by, and the two discuss Gildersleeve's employment prospects. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy series, and this episode first aired on NBC on October 22, 1944, with Harold Peary in the title role, alongside Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
