What happens
Uncle Gildersleeve grows irritable and unpleasant at home, and his nephews Leroy and Clarence suspect he simply lacks romance in his life. They pick Amelia Hooker, the judge's sister, to win his interest. Gildy courts her with a picnic, poetry and an evening stroll, but her brother Judge Hooker disapproves and interferes at every turn. The episode is from the series The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on June 28, 1942, with Harold Peary in the title role and Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle in the cast.
Summerfield, a small town, including the Gildersleeve home, a picnic spot at Underwood Falls, and a park in the evening.
Characters: Gildersleeve, Leroy, Clarence, Marjorie, Bertie, Amelia Hooker, Judge Hooker
Listen for: Gildy's attempts at poetry and his romantic pursuit of Amelia Hooker, and the judge's reactions to his courtship.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
