What happens
Gildersleeve, the pompous Summerfield water commissioner, is pursued by Vicki Chase, an admirer who sent him an alligator suitcase for Christmas. To escape her attentions, he arranges a New Year's Eve double date, hoping to be with Catherine Milford while his neighbor Rumsen Bullard takes Vicki. The series is The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast by NBC on December 27, 1950, starring Harold Peary, with Lurene Tuttle and Lillian Randolph in the cast. Gildersleeve's scheme begins to backfire as Bullard, who has bought a new car for the evening, shows interest in Catherine instead.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
