What happens

Barber Floyd Munson trims the hair of Gildersleeve, who is eager to talk about Miss Joanne Piper, a new piano teacher for his nephew Leroy. Gildersleeve fusses over his appearance and tries to keep up a pretence of indifference when Floyd teases him about a woman. Gildersleeve finds a reason to keep Miss Piper at his house after her lesson, and the evening grows more awkward as she is invited to dinner and then to a soda at Phoebe's Pharmacy. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy from NBC, first broadcast on April 2, 1947, starring Harold Peary.

Summerfield, a small town, in spring around Easter, with Floyd's barbershop, the Gildersleeve house, and Phoebe's Pharmacy

Characters: Gildersleeve, Floyd, Doctor Needham, Leroy, Miss Piper, Marjorie, Birdie, Phoebe

Listen for: Gildersleeve's pompous attempts to hide his interest in Miss Piper, and Floyd's teasing remarks during the haircut

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
