What happens
Gildersleeve hosts a formal dinner for the parents of his niece Marjorie's fiancé, Bronco Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson. Gildersleeve and his household, including Leroy and the housekeeper Birdie, fuss over every detail, from the menu and the table settings to the evening's entertainment, while Gildersleeve's mother-in-law Judge Hooker wangles his way into the gathering. The Thompsons, who are stiff and formal, respond to the lavish preparations with polite reserve. The episode is part of The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on January 25, 1950, and stars Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
