What happens

Gildersleeve prepares for the county fair in Summerfield and, hoping to set a good example for his nephew Leroy, gives two spare tickets to the harness races to his longtime neighbor Rumson Bullard. Bullard then invites Catherine Milford, the woman Gildersleeve hoped to take. Gildersleeve, who has been feuding with Bullard all summer, finds his good intentions turning sour as the rivalry and his romantic hopes collide. The episode is part of The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on September 12, 1951, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
