What happens

Gildersleeve is anxious after an awkward slip involving Lila Ransom, and Eve Goodwin has been avoiding him since. He plans to attend the city employees' picnic, where Leroy must take part in a Maypole dance and present a crown. At the picnic, Gildersleeve tries to win back Eve's favor, but Mayor Throckmorton Tewilliger keeps drawing attention to him, pressing him into a pie-eating contest and a song. The episode ends on a lighter note as Gildersleeve and Eve reconcile.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
