What happens

Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, now riding high after his win at the city employees' outing, is running for mayor of Summerfield with his campaign manager, Judge Hooker. The pair press barber Floyd Munson for office space above his shop, and Gildersleeve sets up campaign headquarters there. His nephew Leroy and his commando friends are recruited to distribute posters, and the candidate and his friends try to drum up support as the new office sees few visitors. This episode of The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on May 28, 1944, stars Harold Peary, with Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle also appearing.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
