What happens

Gildersleeve, campaigning for mayor, spends a day with his niece and nephew at the ballpark, then Leroy delivers a late note from Eve, asking him to meet her. Eve shares good news with Gildersleeve: her mother is coming to visit, and he offers to drive her to the station. Gildersleeve is eager to make a good impression on his future mother-in-law. Their car, however, refuses to start, leaving the two of them stranded and Eve growing anxious about the train. The episode is part of the long-running radio comedy The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on June 4, 1944, with Harold Peary in the title role, joined by Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Summerfield, a small town; the ballpark, the schoolhouse, Peavey's drugstore, Gildersleeve's home, and the road to Moore's Junction station.

Characters: Gildersleeve, Eve Goodwin, Leroy, Marjorie, Peavey, Doc Morton, Bertie, Lila

Listen for: Gildersleeve's campaign speeches at the ballpark and his determination to impress Eve's mother, and the comic mishap with the stalled car on the way to the station.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
