What happens
Birdie bakes a prize-worthy cake to enter in the county fair, but Mr. Gildersleeve and Marvin eat most of it before dinner. Birdie's secret recipe then ends up in the hands of Mr. Peavy, who has promised it to his mother-in-law, and Gildersleeve is left trying to recover it. The Great Gildersleeve is an old-time radio comedy series, broadcast on NBC; this episode first aired on September 16, 1953. Willard Waterman stars as Gildersleeve, with Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle in supporting roles. The story follows Gildersleeve's efforts to make things right with Birdie.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
