What happens
Gildersleeve agrees to babysit his nephew Ronnie while Marjorie attends a dinner and Birdie performs on the radio. Peavey and Leroy also want the job, and Leroy complains that he needs money. Gildersleeve insists he is the right choice and arrives to watch the boy, believing he can manage a young child easily. Ronnie is a lively and wakeful boy who resists going to bed, and Gildersleeve struggles to keep him settled while listening to Birdie's broadcast. The Great Gildersleeve, starring Willard Waterman, aired on NBC, and this episode originally aired on September 23, 1953.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
