What happens
Leroy Forrester wants to go to summer camp, but his uncle, the Great Gildersleeve, has agreed to send him only if his report card improves. Leroy's report card shows a failing grade in English, and he tries to hide it by letting it blow out of his window. The Great Gildersleeve, Bertie, and Leroy all take part in the awkward evening that follows, and Leroy's own English theme is brought into the discussion. Harold Peary and Willard Waterman lead the cast of this NBC series, which first aired on April 30, 1952.
The Gildersleeve household, a small-town home, and Gildersleeve's neighborhood, at report card time before summer vacation.
Characters: The Great Gildersleeve, Leroy, Bertie, Marjorie, Peavey, Judge Hooker, Floyd, Miss Turner
Listen for: Gildersleeve discovering the report card that Leroy tried to lose out the window, and his decision about camp.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
