What happens

Gildersleeve, the water commissioner of Summerfield, is stung when a newspaper poll finds that few residents can name him. Determined to win attention, he considers a publicity stunt suggested by Judge Hooker. He buys a war surplus diving suit and tells the press he will descend into the town reservoir to inspect the underground springs. His family reacts with a mix of worry and amusement, and Birdie and Leroy weigh in with their own remarks as he prepares. The episode is an NBC broadcast from April 23, 1952, starring Harold Peary and the regular supporting cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
