What happens

Gildersleeve arrives home and settles in for an evening with America What?, the new selection from his book club, recommended by Miss Goodwin. His housekeeper Bertie leaves for the movies, and his niece Marjorie and nephew Leroy drift through the room, while Judge Hooker and Floyd Munson invite him to a party for Peavey's birthday. Gildersleeve keeps trying to read, but interruptions and his own restlessness keep getting in the way.

Characters: Gildersleeve, Bertie, Marjorie, Leroy, Judge Hooker, Floyd Munson, Peavey, Miss Goodwin

Listen for: Gildersleeve's attempts to read America What? and the interruptions that follow

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
